Bob would be proud

I took this politcal philosophy quiz. I am 100% Libertarian and 95% Pro-business Republican. Good to know.

You scored as Libertarian. Libertarians believe that you have the right to live your life as you wish, without the government interfering, as long as you donĂ¢??t violate the rights of others. This translates into strong protections for privacy and property rights, and a weak to non-existent social safety net.

Hello, I'm Johnny Cash

I saw Walk the Line this afternoon, and it was phenomonal! It was actually better than I had expected. Every actor is positively terrific. I was genuinely surprised by Reese Witherspoon's performance. I always see her with the cutesy romantic comedy type roles, and I was skeptical when I heard she was playing June Carter Cash. She is absolutely fabulous. No Legally Blonde or Sweet Home Alabama about it. Everyone is good. Tyler Hilton plays a convincing Elvis. Waylon Malloy Payne is an eerie Jerry Lee Lewis. Great casting.
I was a bit uneasy about Joaquin Phoenix singing in the film. My first thought was, "How can you make a movie about Johnny Cash and not have Johnny Cash's music in it?" However, I saw an interview with Joaquin Phoenix and he said the director explained it to him like this. If you want to hear Johnny Cash, listen to a Johnny Cash record. If you want to see an artistic interpretation of his life, his relationship with June, and his music, go see Walk the Line. After hearing that and seeing the movie, I am okay with the choice.
My favorite thing about the movie is the portrayal of the music scene that Johnny Cash was a part of. It's no secret that I am a huge fan of older music, so to see scenes about Johnny touring with Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis was very cool. I would have loved to live at that time and seen them live.
I can't close this entry without mentioning Shooter's performance in the movie. It's short, but great! He has short hair in one of his scenes, which is just odd to me. And the other is the Shooter I am used to. His song from the movie is on the soundtrack and it's awesome.
Go see the movie!

Mandy, You Could Be In St. Croix

Don't you just love talking to your parents? A call home can always take an unsuspected turn. Usually I get an earful about what my aunt is doing or what my dad bought that week. Today, I got some crazy news about my ex boyfriend. Jason is the guy I dated in high school and my first semester away at college. He was a nice guy, but he really wasn't happy that I decided to go away to school and he had some issues in the, uh, uh, uh, yeah-- that area.
Excuse me, I digress. My mom was talking to my second cousin, Jensen, at a family function this past weekend. She asked where he was working, and he said that he changed oil at Valvoline. This is the very same job that Jason got while he was in college. The last I knew, he was still working there because although he graduated college, he couldn't find a job as a teacher. My mom asked my cousin if Jason still worked there and he said no. Turns out that Jason has moved to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands to work for a friend that has opened a Valvoline-esque oil change place there. How f-ing random is that!?!? What's your ex up to? Oh, he's living in the Virgin Islands changing oil. And my parents still don't understand why we broke up!

My Lists

I've always wanted to do this, and I finally sat down and made myself do it. I have come up with a list of my top ten movies and my top twenty songs. Here they are.

Movies
10. A Cool, Dry Place- The Vince movie that really sealed the deal with me. Oh the dance!
9. Dazed and Confused- Reckons back to my high school days. Funny and quotable! Check you later!
8. Office Space- So true. It is so true.
7. Almost Famous- Kate Hudson is great, the story is endearing, and the scene on the bus when they sing Tiny Dancer is classic.
6. Dodgeball- Everything I think is funny wrapped up into one movie. Terrific cast: Stephen Root, Justin Long, Jason Bateman, and of course Vince Vaughn! Love him as Peter LaFluer.
5. O Brother Where Art Thou?- Even though this movie has sad emotional attatchments for me, it's still great. The music and the Cohen brothers' dialouge are just perfect.
4. The Royal Tenenbaums- My favorite Wes Anderson film. Wonderful ensemble cast and my favorite line: "I'm a widower too."
3. Swingers- Funny and meaningful. Vince will always be Trent Walker. And "that scene" was seriously life changing for me. Laugh if you want.
2. The Wizard of Oz- My first true obsession. Still entertaining.
1. Good Will Hunting- Definitley my favorite. Great story, great dialouge, superb acting. Love it.

Songs

20. "Patience" by Gun's and Roses
19. "O Holy Night" preferably sung by a man
18. "Amanda" by Waylong Jennings--NOT the Boston song!
17. "Blister in the Sun" by The Violent Femmes
16. "American Pie" by Don McClean

11. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel

Some Time Off

I have five days off, and it could not come at a better time. I am literally exhausted from work this last week. It's a good exhaustion, but exhaustion nonetheless.
My sister is coming for a visit this weekend, and I am very excited. She wants to do some Christmas shopping around here, hoping to find things that she can't at home. I know we have bigger malls, but they are still malls you know? Oh well, I haven't been shopping with her in a while and she knows how to shop! I am hoping to get her to go out with me to a bar or something. Show her that I don't just sit at home and do nothing. Then maybe she can report back to my parents that I do have friends and am not two steps away from lying lifeless in the bathtub.
There are a lot of good movies coming out soon and I really want to get a chance to see them all. I always say that I am going to see all these movies, but I always end up having to rent them. Oh well. Zathura and Walk the Line are definites even if I have to go by myself after work. I cannot wait to see Walk the Line! I love Johnny Cash so much and I've listened to his music since I can remember. I was very sad when he died. "Johnny Cash died! Who cares about the damn Pope?!?"

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

I haven't posted in a while because I suck. No other excuse. I just suck. News in my world: I got put back into my old store on a semi-permanent basis, there is an open position with CVS that I am in the top running for, and I didn't make enough of an impression on Vince for him to forget about Jennifer Aniston. Maybe I should have talked more...
The last few days have been absolute Hell at work. I've been busting my ass setting Christmas and moving stuff and moving Halloween. I think my hard work paid off though and my manager definitely took notice. She told me today that Dale, another manager that I've worked with is going to talk to the DM about me and the manger trainee program. Let's hope it goes well.
So here's my random story to make this post worth while. When Sara and I met VV, we asked a random guy wearing a badge what to do with our passes. He was helpful and ended up walking us down to see Vince and he's the one who snapped our picture. The other day, a few pictures of him and Vince walking in a park showed up on the discussion board. Some people inquired who he was, so I shared that he worked for the Wild West show and that he had taken Sara and I down to see Vince. Well, Christine, the woman who runs vince-vaughn.com, posted back that the man's name is John and he is the publicist for Wedding Crashers, The Break Up, and the Wild West Show. Then another person gave his full name and said he is also Vince's publicist and was the "head guy" of the Wild West show. So now I feel like a crazy fool. I can't remember what I said in front of this guy, but I know I was talking like a crazy woman to Sara before and after our meeting. I also feel weird that we approached him with our passes, since he was obviously important. Not to mention that my dad keeps refering to him as a roadie! It's just crazy I tell you!

Happy Birthday R!

R is four years old today. I can't wait to hear how his outer space birthday party went on Saturday. I have known him since he was 16 months old! It's amazing how quickly kids grow up. Just wanted to wish him a happy birthday!

Pic To Prove It

I have been visiting my parents for the last few days, but I finally got a chance to digitize my and Sara's pic of us with Vince. I successfully posted it on the obsession board, so I am going to try it here. I hope it works.

Hi I'm Vince

Last night was the Wild West Comedy show and it surpassed all of my expectations. I attended the show with Sara, Josh and Nate. We drove downtown, parked the car., and after a small detour around the state building :) we made it to the theater. The ushers showed us to our seats which were definitely kick ass California gansta style seats. We were in the second row of the orchestra pit about ten feet from the stage. They were playing Johnny Cash over the sound system, so I was getting very stoked for the show.
I'm not sure how it started, but I began talking to a girl who was sitting in the first row across the aisle from me. I mentioned vince-vaughn.com and how excited I was for the show. The usher for our section joined the converstation and asked about the show and the comedians. I mentioned what I knew about the comedians and stuff. I must have been wearing my excitement on my sleeve because and older gentleman sitting next to me leans across the aisle and hands me two after show passes. He says, "Would you like these?" I could not believe what was happening! I asked him if he was serious and said, "You don't want them?" He shook his head and replied, "No. My son gave them to me." I took them and told Nate and Josh that they were going to have to hang outside for Sara and me after the show.
After that, it was very difficult to focus on the show, but we tried. Even Sara was amped and she isn't as obsessive as I am. The show was awesome, and it was very cool to watch Vince live. He can totally work a crowd. Peter Billingsley (Ralphie from A Christmas Story) was a guest, as was Keir O'Donnell (Todd from Wedding Crashers). The comedians were great and the show was very entertaining. I especially liked the Sweet Caroline sing along. Vince can dance for me anytime!
After the show is when the night went from great to phenomonal. Sara and I had no idea what to do with our passes or where to go. I spotted a guy with a headset on and a badge. We asked him what to do and he instructed us to stand by one of the exit doors. We did so and it was very cool because all four comedians walked out of that door. It was awesome. The guy working with the show came back and told us to follow him. He lead us backstage and through halls and doors and down stairs and over the rainbow and through the secret passage way to where the dressing rooms were. Along the way, I think I spotted Vince's sister, but I'm not sure. Some people working with the show said hello and asked how we liked it. They were all very friendly.
Once we were down by the dressing rooms our guy told us to wait in the hall and he went into a room. I could hear Vince's voice. We were then instructed to go into the room and the guy took my camera so we could get a picture. We walk into the room and everything turned into one big blur. Vince was seated at a couch with Peter Billingsley and Keir O'Donnell. He stood up and walked over to us, shook our hands and said, "Hi I'm Vince." I think he thanked us for coming out or something. Then he introduced us to Peter and Keir who both shook our hands. Peter asked if we enjoyed the show. I have no idea what I managed to utter as a response. Then we got our picture taken with Vince, who put one arm around me and one around Sara. Then we were kinda ushered out of the room.
The whole night is so surreal, especially the actual meeting. I remember it, but yet I don't. I remember not being able to speak and just repeating everything I heard Sara say. I also remember being nervous to look at Vince. After we were introduced to Peter and Keir, I couldn't make myself look back at Vince. Very strange. I will say though that what I did see was wondeful. He is absolutely gorgeous in person. He took my breath away. I know it sounds cheesey, but that's exactly what happened. He is very handsome. Tall. Great hair. Polite. All three of them acted genuinely glad to meet fans, even though I am sure it gets tiresome. It was just the best experience ever.

T-minus 2 Hours

I am so freaking excited right now! I cannot contain myself. We're about ready to leave for the Vince Vaughn show and I am going crazy. Sara is very excited after hearing VV on the radio this morning and that makes me very happy. I have the best friends in the world. They are so supportive, even if it is a little scary.
Who put a nickel in you? Wind it down!

It's 4 AM. Do you know where your children are?

I am not keeping up with my resolve to post more entries. I guess I just don't have that much to say. Let's face it folks, the life of a third shift supervisor with CVS is just boring!
The big news in VV world is that he had started smoking agian. I was a bit sad to hear the news, but not surprised. My mom has tried several times to quit and I have stopped being disappointed when she fails, so when I heard Vince had started again it was pretty much expected. I have come to the realization that cigarettes are just that powerful of an addiction and that's why I have never tried one. If I never even take a drag off one, then I will never become a smoker. The way I see it, I have too many vices already. Chipotle, Diet Pepsi, red-headed sluts, Vince Vaughn, music that no one else likes.
The Wild West Comedy Show is in a week, and I am still extremely excited. The guys in the show started a blog on mySpace and it's pretty cool. They don't write too often (gosh who has a blog and then doesn't post every day) but they've started to pick it up a bit. Right now they are in Arkansas and going to Alabama, so I'm sure they're writing out of boredom! If Vince gets bored in Columbus, he can hop over here to Reynoldsburg and I will entertain him. I've got plenty of 100 Grand bars (his favorite-don't ask how I know) and tons of board games. Taboo, Balderdash, Pit, Jenga, hot sex with Amanda. Wait, that's not a board game, that's a bed game!
There is Shooter Jennings show in Cleveland on the 18th of October and one in Athens on the 20th. I want to go to one of them, and the one on the 20th seems more doable, since it's on a Thursday. It'll give me something to look forward to once VV's WW Comedy Show is over.

Two Weeks Baby!

VV's WW Comedy Show is in two weeks, and needless to say, I am STOKED! Everytime I think about it, I get all excited and giddy. In two weeks, I will be in the same state as Vince Vaughn. I will be in the same city as Vince Vaughn. I will be in the same building as Vince Vaughn. I will be within 100 feet of Vince Vaughn. I am going to see Vince Vaughn live and in person! Oh. My. God. *breathes into paper bag
Back to reality-- There was a really creepy guy in my Reynoldsburg store Monday night. He came in once and was a little odd, but we get odd people all the time. He had on an orange Reynoldsburg Youth Soccer shirt and plaid pajama pants and he looked kinda dirty I guess you would say. He bought a few things and left only to return a few hours later in the same getup minus shoes (F-ck shoes! Listen to this guy with shoes). He then started to roam around the store and I went up to the register to wait for him to check out. As he walked by I noticed his eyes were squinty and he was breathing kinda weird. I thought that he might be sleep walking. He walked over to the deoderant and was fiddling around with the sale signs and tearing them off and resticking them all sideways and stuff. I started to get a little creeped out and went to get the other person who was working that night. She came up and we stood there and watched him for a bit. He was still just fiddling around with the signs. Then, he took a big bag of M&Ms and tried to stick them into his pocket. The other lady was like, "Sir can I help you with something?" He looked over and said no and took the candy out of his pocket. He left the aisle, walked around a bit more, and then came to get rung up. He had glasses on so his eyes were no longer squinty and he seemed relatively normal at this point. I rang him up, he said thanks, and left. A few minutes later, he came back and asked if I knew where his shoes were. I told him that he didn't have them on when he came in and he said, "Oh. They must be outside." He was the most random guy ever. I gotta stop working the third shift!

Engagement Party

Saturday night was Sara and Josh's engagement party. We had such a fun time! The food was good, the company was great, and the alcohol was plentiful. I definitley need to learn to keep track of how many shots I take. I had a little too much to drink and had to leave early, but it was very fun up until then.
The party has gotten me very excited about the wedding. I can't wait to shop for dresses and shoes. I want to pick out hairstyles and all that. I am so happy for Josh and Sara and their day is gonna be so much fun!

Pit-L Row BB

I have procured tickets for VV's WW Comedy Show. I got four seats in the orchestra pit row BB. I think that's the second row! Second row! SECOND ROW! I will be close enough to smell Vince! Needless to say, I am extremely excited and counting down the days until the show (25). Sara and Josh will be joining me, and I think Bruce is going to take the fourth ticket.
On a sadder note, our Buckeyes lost last night. I think they held their own against Texas though. The announcers were the worst, and they kept talking about Vince Young. God, you would have thought we were watching the Texas quarterback show! Oh well, what are you gonna do?

Bruce

I found out some pretty sad news last night at work. Bruce, a pharmacist in Pickerington, is leaving CVS. He mentioned to me last week that he had an interview with Merck and I guess he got the job. He is tired of working third shift and he is just not able to work retail during the day. Bruce lost his legs a few years ago and is in a wheelchair. He's without a doubt the most inspiring person I've ever met. He is a very positive, outgoing individual with the best attitude toward life. I am going to miss seeing him at work, but I think the new job will be better for him. I am just very thankful that I met him and was able to get to know him.

Are You Ready to Rock BK Broiler?

Many of you have told expressed your disappointment in the quantity of my blog entries. Thus far, I have taken the "quality not quantity" approach and only posted an enrty when I had something fun or worthwhile to say. I would also make sure I was awake enough to form clear, grammatically correct (for the most part) sentences. That being said, I will now start to post about really stupid things that you all care about even less than Shooter Jennings and Vince Vaughn. I know it's hard to believe, but I do have thoughts in my head that do not revolve around the two of them, and I am pretty sure you don't want to hear about these either. But if you must have two entries a week, two entries are what you're going to get.
I had a very stressful beginning to my week at work. I was scheduled to work two stores on the same night and both managers were less than helpful in resolving the issue. It all worked out after I fudged the schedules and sent a clerk from Pickerington to Reynoldsburg for the night. I did what I had to do. There was a bright spot in the otherwise stressful situation. While in Pickerington Monday morning trying to find a solution to my problem, I happened to glance over at the DVD rack. CVS gets its DVDs from an outside company, and the titles that get sent are usually the really cheesey movies that you catch on TBS on a Saturday afternoon or some off the wall bomb that a now famous star made before they took acting classes. Occasionally one will find a good movie like As Good As It Gets or The Big Lebowski. Monday happened to be my lucky day. Sitting on the second to last shelf of the rack was a copy of The Prime Gig, one of the few Vince Vaughn movies that I like but do not yet own. Vince's handsome face was right there on the cover next to the $9.99 price sticker (that's $7.99 after my discount-do the math folks!). It totally made my day better.
I have a long week ahead of me, but I do have Saturday off for the big game. Not sure if I am staying in town or going to my sister's house. She's having a little game watching party and I think it would be fun, but I also want to see Sara go nuts. What's a girl to do?
Hope you all had a good Labor Day weekend. Be looking for another entry shortly since that's my new thing now. I can't say that it won't suck, but there will be something to read. And cross you fingers for me Firday morning. I will be buying my Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show (God that's a lot to type!) tickets and I want kick ass, California gansta style seats.

Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show

Vince talked about this show the last time he was on Letterman and I have been hoping that there would be an Ohio date. Well, there's three. October 4th, 5th, and 6th in Cincinnatti, Columbus, and Cleveland respectively. I am totally going to one if not two of the shows. Some people on the board went to the kick off show in Chicago last weekend and they said it was awesome. Vince does an opener and the rest of the comics are great as well. I am very excited and can't wait to go!

Makin' Their Way, The Only Way They Know How

Well kids, Hell froze over. That's right, my parents drove down to Reynoldsburg to visit me this past weekend. I had my doubts all week long, but they did show up on Saturday. We had a good time out to eat at Fado and we also saw The Dukes of Hazzard. The movie was okay. Bad acting, not the best storyline. It had some funny parts. Like when Johnny Knoxville tells a group of black guys in Atlanta that they prefer the term "Appalachain Americans" to describe themselves. But the best part of the movie? Busted in Baylor County by Shooter Jennings is playing in one scene! I about fell out of my seat with excitement. I did, in fact, squeal a little bit and say "It's Shooter!" and hit my mom on the arm. My dad laughed at me. I also had to sit and watch the credits so I could see his name. It was like a proud parent watching their child be sworn in as President or something. I was like, "There he is. My little Shooter with his song in a movie." Crazy how take ownership of him as an artist. He is MINE! I liked him before anybody else! Well not really, but I've been a fan for a while now. You all will like him too, I'll make sure of it. Love and nubs!

Put the O Back in C untry

It's no secret that I love Shooter Jennings almost as much as I love Vince Vaughn. I'm not really all that attracted to Shooter, at least physically, but I enjoy his music as much as I enjoy VinceVaughn's movies. I stumbled upon Shooter Jennings one day while flipping through channels. I ended up on CMT and they had a short interview with him where he talked about playing his dad, Waylon Jennings (one of my all time favorites from my dad's collection), in the new Johnny Cash biopic. After the interview they played his video for 4th of July, which is quite a catchy song. The next time I was al Wal-Mart, I looked for his CD and it was only like ten bucks so I got it. I played it through that same night and loved it instantly. His lyrics were mature and poetic- quite refreshing in this day of the John Mayer variety of songwriters. Shooter mixed enough country with enough rock n' roll to suit my tastes perfectly.
Not long after buying his CD, and interesting post made it's way onto the Vince Vaughn discussion board I frequent. The topic of discussion was Vince's involvement with Drea deMateo. Someone posted a picture of her with Shooter Jennings at a CMT event and said that the two of them were a couple. I thought it kind of cool that Shooter Jennings would pop up on the board like that. This strange interconnection continued when I visited Shooter's website for the first time. I read his bio and it stated that he used to sing in the LA based band called Stargunn. I recognized the name immediately from the special features on the movie Made. Made is the movie that Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau (the guy from Swingers) made. They used many of their friends in the making of the movie, including Vince's high school friend as music supervisor. This friend also managed the band Stargunn and put one of their songs in the movie. I posted something about this on the same Drea deMateo thread and someone posted back that he was a music editor and had recently met Shooter Jennings at one of his shows. He introduced him to Drea and said that they had met at the premier for the movie Made. I find it quite serendipitous that this country singer that I started listening to has a weird connection to the actor that I've been obsessing over for the past year. But trust me everyone, it's all coincidence. Honestly (hehe) ;)
In any case, I joined a Shooter Jennings i-squad which is a grassroots promotional type thing. I get points for requesting him on the radio and CMT and GAC. I also am going to recieve a promo pack with postcards and flyers to hand out. I still have two CDs left, if anyone is interested. I just want you all to like him as much as I do.

Crabcakes and Football!

If any of you have not yet seen Wedding Crashers, shame on you! I have seen it five times already, but I will see it again with you if you need me too. I'm a good friend like that. I know, I know...
A friend reminded me the other day of all the good times I've had this summer and I thought I'd take time to reflect on them all. We had the Killer's concert that kicked it all off in May which was great times. Good show, good company, and good flirting. There was also fourth of July weekend and Sara's birthday party. So much liquor and so much fun. A look back on the summer wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention Crashers' Weekend. I had such a good time with my friend from home. We saw the movie, went out to a bar, hung out on Saturday, saw the movie agian. It was such a good time. Of course this summer has been filled with little fun moments out to eat, at church, and at the park. With the great friends I have, it's hard to not have a good time. I look forward the rest of the summer with you.

It Was The Best!

So my predictions were correct. Best week ever! I had such a fun week and the great times this weekend tied things up very nicely.
My first viewing of Wedding Crashers was on Friday, and my plan to get a group together worked out really well. There were nine of us, including my friend Jaime from home, at the theater! I loved the movie. I was not disappointed in the least. Vince was just awesome and at the top of his game for sure. He delivered his lines seamlessly, not even giving the audience time to process one joke before throwing another at them. He's just great. The movie not only had good jokes and comedic situations, it had a really good storyline. It had just enough cheesy romance. It was definitely well written, had a good three act plot etc. There's fun cameos by Dwight Yoakam and James Carville (sp?), his second in a Frat Pack movie.
After the movie, the group went out to Grapevine Pub for drinks. It was also great times! We went crazy and danced like idiots. I asked the the DJ if he wanted a screw (wanna screw?) and I got kissed on the cheek by some crazy old guy that liked the girl on girl dancing a little too much. The slight hangover Saturday was not fun, but the night was well worth it.
Saturday day was spent getting my car to the shop, but the evening was spent with Josh and Jonas at Easton. We ate dinner in the church at Fado and then went to Barnes and Noble. Jaime found a book about porn stars at the bookstore and some random guy came up and started looking at it with us. He was impressed that I knew who Peter North (aka Tree Trunk) was. But his being there was just a bit creepy. Okay, a lot creepy.
We played 90s Trivial Pursuit with Jonas and his pretty friend Saturday night. We also had good times with the light saber and the cowboy hat. The evening was so much fun, it didn't end until six in the morning. It picked back up again Sunday afternoon with a run to Steak and Shake and then another viewing of Crashers.
I have to say that it holds up a second time. You catch more jokes. You anticipate lines that are just killer. You get to see more Vince....I mean....what? But I enjoyed the movie a second time. And in true Jonas fashion, he caught some little moment in the film and went crazy with laughter. So we can now place the muddled desert at the engagement party right up there with Ben Stiller eating the hot dog in Starsky & Hutch and Danny Glover's "Boooo!" in Tennenbaums. Good times, good times.
So, in all the craziness this weekend, I was again reminded how great my friends are. I feel like I say this in almost every post, but it's the truth. We have such a good time together. It's as if we've made a family here in Columbus. Sara picks me up from work when my car breaks down, Josh lends me his car, we eat off of eachothers' plates at dinner. I am so grateful that I have the great friends that I have. Thanks for the best week ever guys! I love you.

Crashers (Again!)

In case I haven't hammered my point home yet: THIS MOVIE IS GONNA F-IN' ROCK! I hope you all join me opening night for some good times.
The movie's website has a bunch of fun things on it now. I sent a few of you e-cards. They also have a thing where you can "crash the trailer." You put your picture in the trailer over someomone's face. Kevin from the Frat Pack tribute site thought he would be funny and put himself over Vince in the trailer. Not very funny to us "crazy girls over at vince-vuaghn.com." I am just totally stoked for this flick.
Vince's next movie is Thumbsucker which is going to be released in September and The Breakup, which is currently filming, is slated to open in February. The Breakup is going to be a good one too kids. Jon Favreau, Justin Long, and Jason Bateman are going to be in it! Peter Billingsly (Ralphie) is also helping Vince produce. Yay!

Bad Weekend, Good Friends

This last weekend was the worst weekend I had in a long time. I had to work every day, and Saturday morning, the opening manager didn't show up for work at the store I was at. I was supposed to leave at seven but ended up staying until 10:30. Not a good thing to do to the traveling manager who is doing you a favor!
I ran into an old high school friend on Sunday. It was really great to see her and catch up and all, but it totally depressed me. She is married now so our conversation quickly turned into who got married to whom. A total reminder to me that I too got engaged to the guy I fell in love with my freshman year of school. Unfortunately, my engagement didn't quite pan out. Sometimes I think I have a good grip on things and then something like that just hits me and knocks me back a few paces. I have finally gotten to a point where I my life has a new direction and I am really excited about where my life is going, but talking to Beth made me remember the direction I had wanted to take. Then I just start this downward spiral thinking all these "would haves" and "could haves," and reliving in every excruciating detail why I'm not married.
After all this, she and I talked about a mutual friend named Paul who used to live next door to me. He was one of my best friends from sixth grade until he moved away our sophomore year of high school. His mom worked nights and my mom eventually quit asking whether or not he was staying for dinner and just set him a place at the table. He moved to New Mexico to be closer to his dad. We kept in touch for a year or so, but you know how things go. We drifted apart. Talking about him made me so sad that we hadn't kept in touch better.
It's a good thing that I have the world's best friends, or I would probably end up in the bath tub. Then my brother-in-law would say, "I told you all it was going to happen!" In all seriousness though, Jonas and Sara and Josh totally picked me up and made me feel better. They were so supportive and it made me not feel stupid for being so upset. We engaged in a little retail therapy and they helped me make a purchase that otherwise would have made me even more depressed. Then we went out for ice cream. I hadn't had ice cream in a while. I haven't had sex in while. But it's been longer for the sex.....

More on Crashers

So I read an interview with Vince Vaughn and Wedding Crashers is the highest testing movie in New Line Cinema history! I don't think the hype is all "hype" on this one guys. It's gonna be great, even if you're not a Vince fan or a Frat-Pack lover like I am. I am totally organizing a field trip to see the movie the day it comes out. July 15th! Mark your calendar.

What are Biscuits?

Yes ladies and gentelmen, JM doesn't know what biscuits are! And we are no longer welcome at Bob Evans.
On a more serious note, work is going well. I am making new friends and, more importantly, new contacts with CVS. All the store managers and supervisors seem to like me and like the work I am doing. I even talked to our district manager this week and it went well. I think I impressed him by already having done three of the things he wanted me to do. Plus I sent a really professional looking fax to all of my stores. I rock!
So as many of you know (and a few of you take seriously), I am thinking of moving to Los Angeles. CVS is opening stores in the greater LA area and looking for mangers. I am going to talk to my district manger and ask him to make some calls for me. I will probably be making a trip there for an interview and to scout out the place. I keep thinking to myself, "Am I really going to pursue this?" But honestly (I usually lie, but this time I am being honest--hehe) I think that this is an opportunity I have to take. At the very least, I have to see it through or I will always be wondering "what if?" So you can all call me crazy, make comments about stalking Vince Vaughn, or tell me that Swingers is just a long commercial for how cool LA is, but this is something I really want to do and I think it will be good for me. I really want the people I love to rally behind me on this one. Even if you have to fake it and talk about how crazy I am behind my back :) Love you all!

The Wait is Waning

So exciting news on the Wedding Crashers front--the release has been moved up a week. July 15th baby!
Vince and Owen did a nice little bit for the MTV Movie Awards with Justin Long. Needless to say, there was plenty of ham and cheese! I can't wait to see the movie. I am too excited.
Side note: how did the battle of the news teams from Anchorman not win best fight?!?! Come on....

Tom and Katie

Yeah, so this whole thing with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is totally getting to me. I am such a Hollywood Gossip Whore! My theory on their relationship: a total publicity stunt that convieniently covers up the fact that Tom Cruise is gay. I read on a Hollywood gossip site that Tom is gay and all of his relationships have just been arrangements between him and willing ladies. I wasn't sure what to think at the time, but now that he and Katie Holmes are very outwardly flaunting their relationship I am starting to believe it. I mean, the guy was all Mr. Iamgoingtosuethetabloidsforviolatingmyprivacy and now he's giving interviews to Access Hollywood and jumping on couches on the Oprah show. C'mon people, what is up with that! Oh well, that's just my two cents.
Don't forget-- Wedding Crashers July 22nd!

The Excitement is Killing Me

I am way to excited for Wedding Crashers. I copied these rules from Kevin's Frat Pack fansite. I hear that Will Ferrell cameos as the guru who gives them the rules. Yay!
Rule #4: No one goes home alone.
Rule #10: Invites are for losers.
Rule #15: Fight the urge to tell the truth.
Rule #17: Every female wedding guest deserves a wedding night.
Rule #25: You understood she heard that, but that's not what you meant.
Rule #27: Don't over drink. The machinery must work in order to close.
Rule #41: Don't hit on the bride! That's a one-way ticket to the pavement.
Rule #53: Be pensive! It draws out the "healer" in women.
Rule #54: Always pull out in time.
Rule #57: Avoid virgins. They're too clingy.
Rule #63: No "chicken dancing." No exceptions.
Gotta love #17 and #54!

Son, You're in the Bible Belt

Well I have returned from my lovely vacation to Murphy, North Carolina. All in all, I had a pretty good time. We visited with a lot of family that I had never met before, but it was fun anyway. All the men talk like the guy from King of the Hill-- no joke. They mumble and pronounce every third syllable. You can't understand a word they say.
I had fun with my sister and brother-in-law. We wanted to get some alcohol for later that night and someone had told us about a liquor store called ABC in town. We went and got a bottle of rum, but my brother-in-law wanted beer. We'd seen wine at the grocery store, so we went there to get beer. When we get there, we realized that they sell wine but no beer. The girl working told us we had to go to Tennessee to get beer. So we get in the car and procede to drive the thirty minutes to the state line. We get there and go to a little shop just over the line. I bought some postcards and my brother-in-law bought a case of Miller Light. The man working was really friendly (as were all the people down there), and he asked us why we were down there. We told him we were visiting family and came down to decorate the cemetery. My brother-in-law asked him why you could buy liquor and wine in Murphy, but no beer and buy beer in Tennessee but no wine or liquor. The man says, "First of all son, you're in the Bible belt. Secondly, Murphy voted in wine, we voted in beer. And the state, which runs the ABC stores, put in the liquor and there was nothing Murphy could do about it. They picketted and petitioned, but there was nothing they could do." We found it completely strange and we found the excuse of being in the "Bible belt" even weirder. "You're in the Bible belt" became a running gag for the rest of the trip.
On Sunday, my dad took us to see the greatest attraction Murphy has to offer. It was a park called Fields of the Wood that was made by the church of God. Imagine if you will a football field. Now imagine it propped up against the side of a large hill. Now instead of the yard markings, imagine the ten commandments written out, larger than life, on the side of the hill. We were definitely in the Bible belt. I have pictures if anyone is interested.
I also got a chance to do some shopping. I got to have country fried steak, chicken and dumplings, bananna pudding, and of course sweet tea. The scenery was beautiful and very peaceful. Not a whole lot going on in the mountains, but they're really pretty. In any case, I had a good vacation.

The Dog and Such

Wow, has it been a while or what? Can't really say what I've been doing that's made me too busy to write because I don't really know. I guess work and whatever have been filling up my time.
Fun story from work Saturday. After a lovely visit from friends, one of my crew members calls me to the front of the store saying that there was a dog in the store. I thought, "Okay, there's a Paris Hilton wannabe with her dog in here." Boy was I wrong! A stray dog decided to walk into the store and have a look around. The husky-German shepard mix was a bit imposing looking at first, but I told her to sit and she did. I called the Franklin county whatever office and gave them a message with the license number, but Pickerington police ended up coming to get the dog. I hope she got home.
That's all I have for right now. I'm sure I will think of a funny R story or something later. Looking forward to Cince de Mayo!

The Frat Pack and Such

The movie choices this week were Meet the Fockers and Ocean's 12. JM and I thoroughly enjoyed Meet the Fockers, though I don't think it was as good as the first. People had told me that it rivaled Meet the Parents, but I really don't agree. It definitely lived up the the hype, but it wasn't as good. Maybe I was just tired.
One of the best parts of the movie was the horn on the RV. I need it for my car! Life is not complete until you have a horn that plays Puff the Magic Dragon. I also liked Owen Wilson's cameo and I can't believe that no one had told me about it. Like my brother-in-law letting it slip about the Frat Packers' cameos in Anchorman. I was very happy when I when I saw Owen. JM was surprised that I got so excited over an actor that wasn't Vince Vaughn. What can I say, I love all the Frat Pack guys, not just VV.
Speaking of Vince Vaughn (I find myself saying that a lot), he and Owen are going to be on Ellen on Thursday promoting The Wedding Crashers. Crazy since the movie doesn't come out until July, but hey I will take all the Vince I can get!
I find the whole "Frat Pack" concept very cool. I read an article on Christine's site from the New York Times (http://www.vince-vaughn.com/archives/2005_03.htm scroll down the March 26th) about them and their new way of doing comedy in Hollywood. Basically, the guys, their managers, producers, and a few directors (under their own production companies like Stiller's Red Hour) come up with a concept, write the script, get all their friends to be in it, then do table readings to sell it to the studios. The studios don't have to do a whole lot except buy the movies. VV had a quote that wasn't necessarily in reference to this idea, but it goes along the same lines. He said that a lot of comedies are made because studios are trying to figure out what people will think is funny rather than because they are actually funny. I think that's where the Frat Pack's success lies, they have a good eye for what is funny. The Dodgeball commentary goes into the difficult process of shopping the movie and how a lot of studios thought that no one would want to see a movie about dodgeball. It's a perfect example of how the Frat Pack understands comedy so much better than the studio big wigs. I'd be interested to know what you all think about the whole thing. Let me know.

R is All Grows Up

I have been so busy working lately that I haven't had time to post. Work is also pretty boring, so there hasn't been much to talk about. I did get some exciting news from the boy I babysit for. For those of you who don't know, R is three and is the smartest, cutest kid in the whole world. He has been potty trained for quite some time now, but he had some issues doing "number 2" on the toilet. Yesterday his mom called me and put R on the phone. He triumphantly told me that he had made poo on the potty and that he got a new bounce around for all his efforts. He also regretfully informed me that he went out on the deck with no shoes and got a splinter in his foot. He was the most talkative he has ever been on the phone. I know you all must think I am nuts, but I am excited for him. What can I say, I love him!

Starsky & Hutch Easter Egg

So I got the best tip from the Vince Vaughn Discusion Forum today. There is the best Easter Egg on the Starsky and Hutch DVD with VV doing a "bit for the kids." He is all decked out in his little 70s getup, mustache and all, and plays Brady Bunch trivia with a security guard. You can get to it by scrolling right once you're on the special features menu. The large star will turn orange and then you hit enter. Check it out, it's great. I am absolutely stoked about this revelation! *sigh* I heart him.

Hold Me Closer Tiny Dancer

I watched Almost Famous last night with JM. He had not seen it and it is definitely his type of movie. Especially with all the Zepplin. I hadn't seen it in a long time, even though I got the DVD for Christmas. I got to see one of my favorite scenes of all time. When the band is sitting on the bus after having a huge fight. They're all sitting in an awkward hungover silence until they all start singing Tiny Dancer. It's great. And Kate Hudson is so good in that movie. It makes me wonder what ever happened to her. She is adorable in her romantic comedies, but she is much too good of an actress to just be adorable. The scene where her character is "introduced" to Russel and she gets tears in her eyes....it says so much about their history without saying anything about their history. It's just great acting in my opinion, feel free to disagree.
Saturday night, I went out with some friends. We had good times- we drank, saw a real life pirate at UDF, made a video game character dance like a tramp, and watched an entirely different kind of movie. We even made up a new friend--Cheddar Melt the Walrus! It makes me giggle and think "Ewwww." Good times....good times.....

Movies

As per my usual routine, I rented a few movies and watched them on my first night off. Unfortunately, I am out of Vince Vaughn movies to see (if anyone can find me a copy of Just Your Luck, let me know). I decided to get The Notebook and Closer. I was excited to see both of them, especially The Notebook since both Bruce and JoRo said it made them cry. I have to say that I was severly disappointed. It was a cute love story, but I just wasn't that moved by the whole thing.
Now Closer on the other hand, was great. I was a bit taken aback by the vulgarity of the language. I know what your thinking, it must have been pretty crazy to make an impression on me! I guess I just wasn't expecting it. But the movie has really been making me think ever since I finished it. I keep wondering why Alice never told Dan her real name, but was able to do so with Larry. The thought is still very incomplete.
I really really liked the movie though. It was actually kind of painful to watch parts of it. While both the Dan and Anna characters were coming clean to their respective partners, I totally understood the feelings in the conversations. I could relate to Alice not being able to understand how anyone could cheat. I also understood Larry's need to know details but still being revolted by them.
I think the most striking thing about the movie is actually a very small detail. When Alice and Dan meet, he confesses that he has a girlfriend named Ruth, yet he can't pull himself away. Obviously he leaves Ruth for Alice and then Alice for Anna, and Alice is surprised. I find so much truth in Dan's character. If a man is willing to cheat- to leave someone he loves, or once loved, for someone else, what's to say that he won't do it again. What makes one woman so special or so much better? Whose to say that another more special even better woman is going to come along. And the "other woman" seems to delude herself into thinking that now that he's with her, he'll stay put. Cheating is just not the answer. Never.

I Still Love You Jake Westbrook

So the Indians lost to the White Sox in the season opener, but for once you can't blame Cleveland's loss on their pitching! Jake Westbrook allowed just four hits in eight innings! Four hits! That is just awesome. He totally did his job, it was up to his offense to do the rest. Hopefully Jake's start is a sign of things to come this season. He's young and healthy and let's hope he doesn't play a Jaret Wright on us and start sucking for no reason. In any case, I am really feeling good about this season. Cleveland might have finally gotten their pitching together--let's hope.
As a side note, it's so odd seeing Randy Johnson as a Yankee. He beat up on the Red Sox, so I guess he's doing what the Yankees are paying him to do! Between the American League arms race and the steroid scandal, I am about ready to give up on baseball. Too bad I love the game too much. We'll have to see.

A Blog about Pogs

Good times were had tonight. It's so fun getting together with my friends- TW was in town and I hadn't seen SS or NZ for a while either. It was NZ that suggested that I blog (blog the hell out of it) about pogs. What can be more fun than cardboard cirlces? How about hitting cardboard cirlces with a heavier metal circle? Oh pogs, how I miss you!
I have the world's best friends, and I really hope they know just how cool they are. Only good friends allow you to obsess over Vince Vaughn, even to the brink of unhealthiness, but still laugh when you tell them that you bought a Dwight Yaokum record because he's Vince Vaughn's favorite artist. Only the truest friends will humor you into thinking that you might meet Vince Vaughn in New York City, or Las Vegas, or Cleveland. Great friends also get donuts with you when you get off of work at eight in the morning. I love you all!

Organ Donation

April is National Organ Donation and Transplantation Awareness month. This topic, as many know, is very near and dear to my heart. In June of 1998, an organ donor saved my father's life. Afer suffering from CPOD (chronic pulmonary obstruction disorder- emphysema and chronic bronchitis) for about five years, my father began a long process to become listed for a lung transplant. He was listed in late May of 1998 and about three short weeks later he received a call that a possilbe donor had been found. Dad received the donors left lung, which increased his lung function from about 20% to nearly 90%.
We don't know much about my dad's donor. He was killed near the Cincinnati area in a motorcycle accident and was just 16 years old. Donation is the most amazing thing to me. I think most people don't give donation much thought, and it's probably the last thing on their minds when standing in line at the BMV. Those who do make the decision to share their life probably don't realize all the good it can do. The families who are able to step away from their own grief and mourning and decide to donate a loved one's organs most likely know that they are doing something good, but I highly doubt if they know the true scope of it. Each recipient's life is extended. Their quality of life is heightened. Their families are able to have them in their lives just that much longer. My father has been able to see my high school and college graduation. He walked my sister down the aisle at her wedding. He celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary with my mom. But most importantly he has been able to live his life every day for the last seven years. Dad's donor and his family have given such a great gift to him and our family. I am forever grateful to them.
If you have not considered being an organ donor before, I hope that you will think about it this month. It is important to share your decision with your family; by talking about your wishes, your family will know what decision to make should they be placed in the situation. You can get more information at www.donatelife.net

Great Goings-on

So the last few days have been really great. Lent is over and I have been getting my fill of Dodgeball. I totally forgot how charming and handsome VV's character is in that movie! I have been watching so much of him as Trent Walker lately, I forgot how cute the older, chubbier VV is.
In addition to watching the much missed Dodgeball DVD, I had good times enjoying the awesome spring weather yesterday. Fazoli's at Blacklick park was definitley a good idea. That kind of evening puts a nickel in me every time. I also got some good news at work Tuesday morning, but I will share more about that when all the details are in (sorry JS, I don't want to start anymore CVS rumors before all the facts are settled). All in all things look like they are shaping up to be pretty good for a while.

Hello Everyone

I would like to introduce all of you to my new blog. I decided it might be fun to post things for all of you to read. I know you don't get enough of me talking about Vince Vaughn in person, so I figured I'd post aobut him on the internet. But seriously, while I will mention VV from time to time, this blog will be devoted to all things going on in my life or going through my mind. In any case, I think I will enjoy it and I hope you all will too.
